Bernard was born in 1604 to a family of humble countryfolk and was clothed in the Capuchin habit at the age of 22, and led a life of prayer and penance as a lay brother. Though unable to read and write, he was often consulted by theologians and prominent people seeking solutions to the most difficult questions. He died on August 22 1694, and was beatified by Pope Pius VI. His body is venerated in the Capuchin church at Offida.
