Prayer to Remove What Keeps Me from God
I beg of you, my Lord, to remove anything which separates me from you, and you from me. Remove anything that makes me unworthy of your sight, your control, your approval; of your speech and conversation, of your benevolence and love. Cast from me every evil that stands in the way of my seeing you, hearing, savoring, and touching you; fearing and being mindful of you; knowing, trusting, loving, and possessing you; being conscious of your presence and, as far as may be, enjoying you. This is what I ask for myself and earnestly desire from you. Amen.

This is a powerful prayer that prepares us for eternity with God. Be forewarned, however. If you pray it, God will honor it and you will find your attachments, which you may not have recognized as such, being stripped from you. This is a difficult, painful, but necessary process if we are to live with God forever. We should have no attachments but God alone.
