Early Franciscan history, from the time of Saint Francis's conversion to the death of Saint Clare of Assisi is told in these three books. Incidents covered in one book are not repeated in the other two books, although they may be referred to in them. Each book is a historical biography of the saint as imagined as told through the eyes of those who knew the saint or heard of him or her during the saint's lifetime. The reader will meet a variety of characters, some of whom appear in two or all three books of this trilogy. A fascinating way to understand the times, personalities, and influences of these three great saints, as they interacted with all manner of people from all walks of life. Some of these people were inspired by these saints to change their lives; others considered these great followers of Christ to be mad; others simply disregarded them.
The actual words of the saints are used as much as possible in the text. Chapter notes at the end of each chapter tell which words were used and from which writings. They also give the factual background of each chapter so that the reader can determine what is recorded in the histories of the saints and what is the author's imaginative recreation of the events.
