Conversation With Christ: The Teaching of St. Teresa of Avila About Personal Prayer
1982 reprint edition edited by Rev. Father Peter Thomas Rohrbach, O.C.D., Carmelite priest and author. Fr. Rohrbach synthesizes St. Teresa of Avila's method of meditation into a simple, straight forward way that works for the beginner in this type of prayer. Meditation leads to contemplation, but contemplation is the gift of the Holy Spirit. Meditation is the way to begin mental prayer. St. Teresa does not disparage vocal prayer--in fact, she states that it is necessary--but for the person who wishes to grow in the spiritual life, mental prayer is needed.
This book is used as the optional text for the first novice year of formation in the Confraternity of Penitents. It replaces Difficulties in Mental Prayer which is no longer available.
