“Dare to be more!” is the call of Pope Francis to young people in his Post-Synodal Exhortation Christus Vivit (“Christ is alive!”). The Holy Father invites us to look to Carlo Acutis, who died at the age of 15 in 2006 and was beatified in Assisi in 2020. He is buried in the Sanctuary of the Renunciation, which in Assisi recalls the young Francis who stripped himself of all his goods, to the point of remaining naked, in order to follow Jesus and live according to the Gospel. Pope Francis offers Carlo as a witness of our own times, with a healthy passion for computing and a heart filled with God, to warn us not to fall into a trap: “He saw that many young people, wanting to be different, really end up being like everyone else, running after whatever the powerful set before them with the mechanisms of consumerism and distraction. In this way they do not bring forth the gifts the Lord has given them; they do not o er the world those unique personal talents that God has given to each of them. As a result, Carlo said, ‘everyone is born as an original, but many people end up dying as photocopies.’ Don’t let that happen to you!” Carlo Acutis and Francis of Assisi: two life stories that are so original. So far apart. But with a red thread that unites them. A meeting of lights for young people of our times.
